Canon 5C20 on a Windows PC: start with the printer code
If Windows shows a Canon 5C20 message, first check whether the same code appears on the printer. A computer can report a device condition without being its cause. Note the model and exact code before reinstalling software.
Look up the code for that model
Find the printer on Canon Support and open its manual’s support-code section. Use the prescribed response for the exact product. Do not copy a repair sequence from a different Canon series.
Separate device and computer checks
Record whether the printer can produce its own test page. If the device itself is in an error state, clearing a Windows queue may not resolve it. If the printer works independently but jobs fail only from one PC, record the Windows version, connection type and printer entry selected.
Avoid forcing internal parts
Inspect only areas the user manual allows you to access. Do not move a stuck carriage by force or run an undocumented service-mode reset to suppress the message. Stop when the manual recommends service.
Keep a note of the steps completed and whether the code returned. Use our Canon service guide for the next conversation. For a separate installation fault with no device error, use driver installation checks.
