Install Canon printer drivers: four useful checks

Published by Alphatech · Updated October 11, 2026

A driver installation works best when the model, system and connection are identified first. Installing several similar packages can make it harder to tell which printer entry is being used.

1. Confirm the exact model

Read the model name from the printer. Find that product on Canon’s official support site. Do not choose a package solely because the series number looks close.

2. Check operating-system compatibility

Select the actual operating system and review the supported versions for the download. If Canon does not list your system, ask about compatibility rather than downloading an unrelated driver or disabling security checks.

3. Follow the installer’s connection sequence

Choose USB or network setup as appropriate. Connect the cable when the official installer asks you to, and keep the printer powered on. For wireless installation, confirm that the computer and printer can communicate on the intended network.

4. Test the intended printer entry

After installation, select the correct printer and send a short test document. If several entries have similar names, check which connection each one uses before removing anything. Preserve configuration details first.

For an older LBP2900B, see our driver compatibility guide. If a hardware support code remains on the printer, use its model-specific manual; driver installation is a separate issue.
