Manage AOL two-step verification and recovery details
Two-step verification adds another ownership check to account sign-in. Before changing it, make sure you can still access the recovery phone or email associated with your AOL account. A security change is a poor time to discover that an old phone number no longer belongs to you.
Start in your account security settings
Sign in directly to AOL and open the account security area. Review the verification choices offered for your account. Follow the on-screen instructions for enabling or managing the feature; available options and menu wording can change.
Verify recovery information first
Use AOL’s recovery information guidance to check the contact methods. Add or update your own details through the official settings and complete any requested verification. Keep those codes private.
If you are considering turning it off
First identify why verification is failing. An unavailable phone or an app-specific sign-in error may need a different solution. Removing an extra security check reduces protection, so do not disable it merely because an unfamiliar caller asks you to.
If you cannot sign in to change settings, use the official AOL recovery route. If you see security changes you did not make, read the hacked account guide. No independent helper can bypass verification or safely receive your one-time codes.
